Pôlice presence increased at Edinburgh Airport

A police unit is to be created at Edinburgh Airport for the first time with airport operator BAA paying the £2.5 million annual cost. The new unit will have more officers and support will no longer be taken from other parts of the Lothian and Borders force. Five extra officers will be added to the current 39 on duty, with an increase in those authorised to use firearms.

The move is in response to the increased terror threats to the airport and growing number of flights.
