Belfast Central is the main railway station located on East Bridge Street in the city centre. It operates the inter-city Enterprise service to Dublin Connolly which runs every two hours. Central is also served by Northern Ireland Railways which is part of the Translink services and came into existence in 1968. Transport links include a Belfast-Dublin main line, a Coleraine-Londonderry line as well as suburban routes from Belfast to Portadown, Larne, and Bangor. A parcel and freight service is available.
Services are most frequent on the Portadown - Belfast - Bangor corridor, with new trains offering fast suburban services. The line to Londonderry/Derry is quite spectacular as it passes along the north coast after Coleraine, but travellers should note that the railway journey is slower (two hours or more) than the equivalent Ulsterbus Goldline express coach which takes one hour and forty minutes.
Journeys between Dublin and Belfast take over two hours, with up to eight trains a day offering offers some superb views and is still generally quicker than travelling by bus.
Passengers travelling to and from Central are permitted to travel at no cost on Belfast's Metro service to the city centre on presentation of a valid rail ticket.
Regular services operate between Central and the City's other main stations: Great Victoria Street, Botanic and City Hospital. Great Victoria Street Station is in the Centre of Belfast just yards from the Grand Opera House next to the Europa Hotel.
