If you are flying in from abroad and are not used to the UK motorway system there are four main types of roads:

• M roads are motorways which are shown in blue on the AA Road Atlas. You will find rest stops along the motorways toilet facilities, shops and restaurants.

You will encounter roundabouts when driving on minor and major roads. They are often used for entrances to the Motorways or where two roads intersect. Instead of having stop signs or traffic lights, there is often a roundabout to aid the traffic flow.
