Remember there is a congestion charge operating in London. The charge is £8.00 per day charge (VAT exempt). Operation hours are from 07.00 to 18.00 hours (the congestion charge is not in operation during public holidays or at weekends). There are no tollbooths or barriers around the Congestion Charging Zone and no tickets or passes are needed as there is a network of camera sites monitoring every entrance and exit to the zone along the boundary road, as well as monitoring journeys made within the charging zone.
Traffic signs and road markings make it clear when drivers are approaching, entering, and leaving the charging zone. The cameras read your number plate as you enter, leave, or drive
within the charging zone, and check it against the database of drivers who have paid the charge or those who do not have to pay because they are either exempt.
There is an £8 daily charge for driving or parking a vehicle on public roads within the Congestion Charging zone, between the hours of 07.00 and 18.00, Monday to Friday. Weekends, public holidays, and the period between 25 December and 1 January inclusive, are free.
