Luton Airport is located on the edge of the town of Luton in Bedfordshire approximately 30 miles north of London. The airport is 3 km from junction 10a of the M1 motorway which runs southwards to London, northwards to Leeds and connects to theM25 motorway. It is the fourth largest airport serving the London area .

London Luton Airport is popular with business and leisure travellers, with almost 90% of passengers flying from the airport on scheduled flights (most of them to UK or European destinations). It handled 9.42 million passengers in 2006 and acts as a hub for a number of low cost airlines.

There are four of the major car hire companies based at the airport.  The hire car centre is not in the terminal building.  A free shuttle bus operated by NCP will transfer you to the car hire centre and return.    If you are disabled or have special needs and need to get to the car hire companies, speak to a member of staff of the NCP who have a desk in the Arrivals Area. You can get to and from Luton Airport by a variety of methods including Private Luton Airport Transfers. With a Private Transfer you would be met in the arrivals hall by your own driver who will then take you on to your chosen destination.

Once through customs and into the arrivals area there is a Travelex shop where you can change your money.  A World News shop, where you can buy newspapers, magazines and snacks.  If you want a coffee and a snack there is a Costa Cafe and a Marks and Spencers simply food.  You can also buy essentials at Marks and Spencers to take home i.e. milk, bread etc.  The taxi rank and bus bays are immediately outside the terminal building.

As you enter the Terminal Building (there is only one at the airport), the check in desks (there are around 60) are immediately in front of you and run the length of the terminal building.  There are plenty of shops and eating and drinking outlets available both before and after security.

There are four taxi companies licensed to operate from the airport and use the taxi rank.  The taxi rank is located in the drop off zone immediately outside the terminal building. You can pre book any of the taxis. Our guide to taxis at Luton Airport gives you full contact details.

There is a good range of local bus, coach, train and taxi services operating in and out of the airport, particularly National Express Coaches run excellent services including other London airports.  All bus and coach pick ups and drop offs are in the front of the terminal. There is a railway station at the airport Luton Parkway which has regular connections into Central London and other parts of the UK.  There is a regular free shuttle bus from the airport to the station which takes around 5 minutes. There are several options for parking at the airport: Short, Medium and Long term. There is a drop off zone at the airport which is for departing passengers only, with a maximum stay of 10 minutes.  The driver must not leave the vehicle during this time.  Do not use this area for pick up, use the short stay car park.  Your vehicle will be removed if you have left it and if you are parked for longer than 10 minutes you will be charged.
